EXHIBIT B
Site Description
(Section 6.3.2)
The following narrative sets forth the information required pursuant to Rule 6, Section 6.3.2:
(a) Vegetation and Soil Characteristics
The Brown Derby Mine is located within rangeland controlled by the BLM. The Mine lies at an
elevation of approximately 9300 feet on relatively steep slopes. According to the Soil
Conservation District, local soils are composed of Lucky Series gravelly sandy loams in
Mountain Loam Range Sites and Cheadle Series gravelly sandy loams in Dry Mountain Loam
Range Sites. These soil types take the following representative profiles:
Lucky Series in Mountain Loanr Range Sites
The Lucky Series gravelly sandy loam generally formed on northerly and easterly exposures on
mountainsides and ridges having slopes of between five and 45 percent, in locally transported
gravelly sediment derived from gneiss and schist. Underlying bedrock is typically hard and
resistant to weathering. Soils are moderately deep or deep. They are medium textured, and in
places are gravelly, channery or stony. Available water capacity ranges from low to high, and
permeability is slow to moderate. Precipitation ranges from l5 to 20 inches annually. Native
vegetation commonly includes grasses, such as Arizona fescue, western, bearded and slender
wheatgrasses, plus nodding and mountain bromes; forbs such as American vetch and Indian
paintbrush; and shrubs such as big sagebrush.
Cheadle Series in Dry Mountain Loanr Range Sites
The Cheadle Series gravelly sandy loam generally formed ar southerly and westerly exposures
on upland ridges and valley sides having slopes of between five and 45 percent. Cheadle Series
soils typically formed in material derived in place from gneiss and schist. Soils are well drained
and moderately deep. The surface layer is medium textured and moderately course textured, and
in places are gravelly, channery or stony. Available water capacity is low, and penneabili[y is
moderate to rapid. Precipitation ranges from l0 to 14 inches annually. Native vegetation
commonly includes sparse grass cover, such as muttongrass, pine needlegrass, western
wheatgrass and squirreltail; forbs such as Indian paintbrush and sulfur buckwheat; and shrubs
such as big sagebrush, antelope bitterbrush, Douglass rabbitbrush and prickly pear.
Exhibit B - 1
