• . •
• 5. SITE DISTURBANCE:
The Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board has defined different degrees
of disturbance in a mining and reclamation operation. The definition of
those three Types of disturbance is as follows:
Major Disturbance: That area of a mining operation that includes ex-
' cavations, overburden spoils, and topsoil stockpiles.
Moderate_b'isturbance: That area of a mining operation which is a result
of backfilling of an open cut, stabilization of waste dumps, leveling of
overburdened soils the smooth grading and the distribution of topsoil or
other suitable approved plant growth medium. Also includes within the
affected area, on-site privateways; roads; railroads; evaporation or
settling ponds; leeching dumps; work parking storage or discharge areas
and areas in which structures, facilities, equipment, machines, tools or
other materials or properties which result from or are used in the mining
operation are situated.
• Minor Disturbance: That area of a mining operation which is undergoing
preparation iininediately prior to planting or seeding; is being planted or
seeded; Gr' ha5 been planted or seeded and has nct been released from bond
upon full completion of all reclamation requirements as set forth in tire
permit.
Initial hr•eakdown of the site shows the following total areas for the basic
site conditions.
Open Space (Undisturbed)
Plant Site
Mined Areas
89.9 Acres
17.5 Acres
_139.3 Acres
Total 216.7. Acres
Table L (page L-2) shows a breakdown for each phase with areas far each degree
of disturbance. As Areas 3 through 5 are too large to mine all at once, a
15 Acre portion was considered the maximum that would be disturbed at any one
time. On the average, this 15 Acres would provide 12 to 15 months of mining
operation.
•
Revised: 11-4-83
D - 6
