.: • _2_ E~bit B 1 (page 1 of 3) <br />4/83 <br />SOIL DESCRIPTION REPORT <br />Sx--Schamber-Stoneham complex, 6 to 35 percent slopes. This map unit <br />is on hills and bench edges. The naive vegetation is mainly midgrasses and <br />short grasses. The average annual precipitation is about 13 to 15 inches. <br />This unit is 25 percent Schamber very gravelly sandy loam and 25 percent <br />Stoneham loam. Also in this unit is about 15 percent intergrading gravelly <br />soils. <br />Included in this unit are small areas of Vona loamy sand, Eckley gravelly <br />sandy loam, and Yoder sandy loam. The percentage varies from one area to <br />another. <br />Tne Schamber soil is deep and excessively drained. It formed in sand and <br />gravel derived dominantly from the Ogallala formation. Slope is 6 to 35 <br />percent. Typically, the surface layer is grayish brown very gravelly sandy <br />loam 3 inches thick. The subsoil is brown very gravelly sandy loam 7 inches <br />thick. The substratum to a depth of 18 inches or mare is pinkish gray very <br />gravelly loamy sand and is underlain by light gray very gravelly sand to a <br />depth of 60 inches or more. <br />Permeability of the Schamber soil is very rapid. Available water <br />capacity Ss low. Effective rooting depth is 60 inches or more. Runoff is <br />rapid, and the hazard of water erosion is moderate. The hazard of soil <br />blowing is high. <br />The Stoneham soil is deep and well drained. It formed in calcareous <br />loess and alluvium derived dominantly from mixed sources. Slope is 6 to 25 <br />percent. Typically, the surface layer is yellowish brown loam 3 inches <br />thick. The upper 4 inches of the subsoil is yellowish brown clay loam. The <br />lower 2 inches is very pale brown calcareous heavy loam. The upper 37 inches <br />/'°~ of the substratum is very pale brown calcareous loam. The lower part to a <br />f <br />depth of 60 inches is pink calcareous sandy clay loam. <br />
