Areas will be sloped to a 3:1 ratio slope or flatter.
Smaller areas of steeper slopes may be unavoidable but will be kept to
a minimum. Materials such as rocks and trash that will interfere with
planting will be removed.
Toysoiling
All upper soil horizons to be used in reconstructing the soil shall be
removed from the immediate area before mining. Ali of the A horizon shall
be remc•ved for use as surface soil on disturbed areas. If the A horizon
is less than 5 inches thick, enough material, other than bedrock, immedi-
ately below the A horizon can be removed and used to obtain this thickness.
Topsoil will be stockpiled. Stockpiles shall be selectively located and
protected from wind and water erosion, unnecessary compaction and contamina-
tion by undesireable materials.
Topsoil will be replaced when mining operations are completed. Before
spreading the topsoil, the re-graded areas must be scarified or ripped to
eliminate slippage surfaces and to promote root penetration.
ReveAetation
Seed Mix and Rate:
Refer to form CO-ECS-S for seeding mixture and rates. This seeding mixture
is comprised of grass species which are major components of the climax
community for this range site.
Fertilizer Requirements:
The rate of fertilizer application will be 40 pounds of nitrogen (N) and
40 pounds of phosphate (P205) per acre or as a laboratory soil analysis
indicates is needed. Animal manures or similar organic material may be
used to supply all or part of the specified nutrients.
Time of application shall be immediately prior to seeding, at the time of
seeding, or immediately following seeding, as applicable to the kind of
fertilizer and type of equipment used.
Seedbed Preparation and Planting:
The seedbed shall be well settled and firm, but friable enough that seed
