4. <br /> <br />Least 60 feet thickness are composed of coarse grained sandstone <br />and gravels with minor interbeds of clay and silt fill the <br />valley bottoms (See hydrogeologic cross sections on plates 2, 3 <br />and 4). <br />The Kirkland shale is predominately a gray shale that is <br />underlain by interbedded sandstone, siltstone, shale, car- <br />bonaceous sandstone, and siltstone and coal of the Fruitland <br />Formation. Three important coal seams are located within the <br />Fruitland Formation as shown on the hydrogeologic cross sec- <br />tions. The lowermost coal (C-seam) is separated from the <br />Pictured Cliffs sandstone by approximately one to 30 feet of <br />shale and sandstone. <br />'The Pictured Cliffs sandstone is a massive sandstone that <br />• underlies the Fruitland Formation throughout the study area. <br /> <br />p R PITEAUB ASC[YLTKi wnsn <br />
