1.
1. SUMMARY
1. Piteau b Associates was contracted by Chimney Rock Coal Company
to perform aquifer testing of the Stol.lsteimer Creek alluvium
and Fruitland Formation bedrock at the Martinez Strip near
Pagosa Springs, Colorado. Upon completion of the testing and
evaluation of the test data, this study determined current and
projected inflows to the active and proposed Barren Ridge pits
and a determination of the effects of mining on water chemistry.
2. A step drawdown test was conducted at We11 W-15. Evaluation of
test data indicates a transmissivity value for the Stollsteimer
Creek alluvium of approximately 100,000 gpd/f t.
3. A 24 hour drawdown/recovery constant discharge test was con-.
ducted at Well W-9 along the Barren Ridge area. Water level
changes were monitored in the pumped well and at observation
Well W-10. Evaluation of the test data indicates representative
transmissivity and storativity values of 210 gpd/ft and
1.3x10-4 respectively, for the Fruitland Formation.
4. Computer simulation of the constant discharge test indicated a
representative value for transmissivity of 130 gpd/ft and stora-
tivity of 1.3x10-4. The computer program utilizes the Theis
equation.
• 5. An estimation of pit inflows using hydrogeologic data and com-
puter analysis was performed. Representative values for inflow
to the active pit area and the proposed Barren Ridge area are 10
and 0.6B gpm, respectively.
