5.0 RECLAMATION
Reclamation and revegetation procedures, methods and practices to be used to effectively
reclaim surface disturbances associated with the Yankee Gulch Project, and the success
standards for revegetation and their associated monitoring methodoloeies are described in this
section. Sequencing of reclamation operations is discussed first, followed by more detailed
descriptions of each reclamation activity. Following the reclamation operations section, a
description of vegetation development and noxious weed monitoring and management is
presented. Revegetatton monitoring and success criteria are presented in the final subsection.
~.1 RECLAMATION OPERATIONS -WELL FIELD AND FACILITIES
The reclamation process involves backtilling and grading disturbed areas to final topographic
configurations. redistributing topdressing and reconstructing soils that provide a suitable plant
growth medium, and revegetating the area with plant species which provide vegetation cover
which promotes site stability and is capable of supporting the postmining land use. Following
completion and retirement of mining panels or closure and decommissioning of facility areas.
reclamation will normally he performed in the following sequence:
I) Buildings structures and other improvements will be demolished and removed to the extent
this is physically and economically possible. Salvageable items will be recycled. Non-
salvageable structures, facilities, slab footings and foundations will be demolished and
either buried on-site or disposed of off-site at an approved location. On-site burial of
concrete or asphalt will be subject to prior approval by the BLM;
?) Backfilling and grading operations will be perfot~tted to create acceptable surface
configurations:
3) Drainages will be recons[tucted as an integral part of backtilling and grading operations:
-1) Topdressing materials will he selectively redistributed to reconstruct suitable plant growth
mediums: and
~) Topdresscd :ueas will be revegetated.
During site reclamation. appropriate erosion and sediment control measures will be constructed
and maintained. Before final reclamation of each well field. American Soda will contact the
BLM to arrange a joint mspec[ion oC the site to determine if any reasonable and necessary
changes, revisions or additions need to be made to the approved restoration and rehabilitation
plan.
Reclamation operations will incorporate the planning and general considerations detailed in
Section 3.0 to the extent that they are applicable and effective. Reclamation activity scheduling
will be influenced by seasonal climatic conditions. Seeding and planting will be coordinated
with other reclamation activities to occur as soon as practicable after seedbed preparation has
been completed. Inspections of ongoing reclamation and revegetation operations will be made
on a periodic basis with operational adjustments or corrective measures being implemented as
necessary. Detailed records of reclamation and revegetation operations \vill be kept for
evaluation and management purposes.
Reclamation of the facilities areas will proceed in [he same general sequence described above.
but there will be variations in reclamation procedures for the Piceance and Parachute facility
\mencan Sala.
