M99238GE
U
1.0 INTRODUCTION
This report presents the results of the geotechnical engineering
study we conducted for the proposed Sediment Pond "B" for the Bowie
Number 2 Mine near Paonia, Colorado. The study was conducted at
the request of Mr. Jim Stover, J.E. Stover and Associates, in
accordance with our proposal for geotechnical engineering services
dated October 29, 1999.
The conclusions, suggestions and recommendations presented in
this report are based on the data gathered during our site and
laboratory study and on our experience with similar soil condi-
tions. Factual data gathered during the field and laboratory work
are summarized in Appendices A and B.
1.1 Proposed Construction
We understand that the proposed project will consist of plan-
ning, designing and constructing a sediment pond for Bowie Number 2
Mine. The pond will be constructed partially as an excavation cut
and partially as an embankment fill. The pond will be about two
hundred (250) feet long by about fifty (50) feet wide and will have
a maximum water depth of ten (10) feet. We understand that the
proposed pond will be empty for the majority of the time and will
be filled periodically from storm events. The pond is designed to
empty within about two (2) days. We understand that the proposed
embankment will not include a subsurface drain and seepage losses
will not be controlled.
1.2 Scope of Services
Our services included geotechnical engineering field and labora-
tory studies, analysis of the acquired data and report preparation
for the proposed site. The scope of our services is outlined
below.
- The field study consisted of describing and sampling the soil
materials encountered in four '(4) auger advanced test borings
at the proposed Sediment Pond "B" site location.
1

Lambert ana ~s,~ociares
CONSGLiING GEO*EOe e~G~~ EN GIN EEAS •NO
u •'ERU~ TESTwG
