No significant
surface nor groundwater table occurs within the azeas of operations. The nearest watercourse is McElmo
Creek, two miles to the north. Two relatively minor, extremely intermittent drainages cross the site from the
Ute Mountain area from west-southwest to east-northeast, but they rarely conduct surface water from the
grid shallow slopes of the Utz Mountain foothills. The granular nature ofthe Ute Mountain foothills tends
to absorb the majority of surface moisture rather than conduct it along the surface.
McPhee irrigation project water is utilized to the west and south of the proposed site at slightly lower
elevations. Two small water retairunent dikes on the property south of the site store minimal unoff from
that much larger drainage watershed far !united irrigation and stockwater for that separate owner.
Water for project operations dust abatement, pre-wetting or roads sprinkling shall be purchased from off-
site water sources such as the Ciry of Cortez, Montezuma Water Company, or from active irrigation water
rights converted [o temporary industrial use. It is expected that during cnushing operations 10,000 gallons
per day shall be needeed for crushing equipment, and up to 50,000 gallons per day for haul road sprinkling
doting haulage operatioru.
A stormwater plan is being developed for implementation and certification under the state-wide general
permit. An NPDES discharge permit shall not be necusary.
