Beginning at the southeast comer of that unit,
stockpiled overburden (approximately 3,100 CIS from south of the south edge of the
excavation shall be bulldozed into the worked-out pit floor against the south headwall to
reduce the steep headwall to shallower than 3-Horizontal to 1-Vertical (3:1) slopes.
Upon the complete extraction of Unit I gravel materials the permit financial warranty shall
then be increased to include the mining activity of Unit II also. Overburden (approx.
3,500 CIS stockpiled north of Unit I upon the south half of Unit II and the naturally
occurring overburden (approx. 6,300 C17 covering the south half of un-mined Unit II
gravel deposits shall be bulldozed into the worked-out pit floor of Unit Ito flatten that
1.38-acre azea to finish grade. The remaining overburden from the north half shall be
transferred to a stockpile north of Unit II for the eventual back-fillitrg of the worked-out
Unit II extraction area.
What is left of the steep west headwall of the worked-out pit shall be dozed to a shallower
than 3:lfinished slope bank by "cut 'n 5ll" shaping. The east edge of the Unit I mining
unit shall "daylight" out at grade level towazd the process/stockpile (Proc/Stock) area,
except that a 3-foot earthen berm shall be left at that east edge and along the north edge to
retain surface moisture and prevent silt-laden run-off from the mined area flowing into the
Proc/Stock azea, or into the next on-going mining azea to the north.
The back-filled pit slopes, floor, and water retainment berms shall be top-soiled from the
stockpiled topsoil at the west side of the mined-out unit, utilizing an elevating wheeled-
tractor scraper fora 6- to 10-inch depth of growth-medium cover. At the eazHest climatic
opportunity, late fall or eazly spring, the prepazed, lightly tilled, furrl seedbed shall be drill-
seeded with the following BLM-specified seed mix. Slopes too steep to dn71 shall be
broadcast seeded at double the specified drilling rate and dragged for aone-half to three-
quarter- inch seed internment. All seeded surfaces shall be evenly spread with two tons of
weed-free straw or hay mulch and the mulch crimped into the soil with an un-canted disc
or appropriate mulch crimper.
The project financial warranty shall be appropriately reduced for phased rec4vnation work
performed upon the completed mining unit, with enough financial warranty retained to
cover any remedial re-seedirtg, if necessary.
