Responses and additional
information are discussed below.
,~
The Applicant proposes to install six groundwater monitoring wells on the Stegner
property at the locations indicated on the attached site plan. The wells would be
approximately 15-20 feet deep. These wells would be installed between the permit
boundary and the slurry wall alignment, prior to construction of the wall. These wells
would be measured on a monthly basis dw~ing the life of the mine, to measure
groundwater levels.
Discussions with Mr. John Stegner indicate that problems with crawl spaces and
septic systems occurred when major storm ev=nts caused the groundwater to rise to
within two feet of the natural ground surface. -fhe Applicant proposes to increase the
monitoring frequency to weekly, whenever any of the monitoring wells indicate
~ groundwater within two feet of the natural ground surface. The Applicant agrees that
three consecutive weekly readings of groundwater depths of two feet or less would
trigger the need for a drainage system to mitig+3te the shallow groundwater condition.
Also attached is a revised diagram of the seF~aration berm between the two ponds,
more clearly indicating the specifications for pond lining material.
