4-60
Collection of site-specific information included the excavation,
description, sampling and analyzing of major soil series, and
included man-made fill and other disturbed materials. Soil
series were sampled and described by virtue of backhoe pits
excavated to 60 inches or to bedrock, whichever was shallower.
Each genetic horizon of each major soil was sampled and described.
Dian-made fill was sampled and described from grab samples taken
at the surface. Soil map units were refined to include approxi-.
mate percentages and types of inclusions. Sampled pedons were
located on the soil map (Figure 4.7-1). Mapping, sampling, and
detailed soil descriptions were made in accordance with the
National Cooperative Surveys (USDA-Soil Survey Staff, 1975;
USDA-Soil Survey Staff, 1955). Soil analysis was conducted by
• F & L Labs, Fort Collins, Colorado.
From this information and site specific data, the major soils
to be affected in the study area were evaluated as a source of
material available for reclamation. The present and potential
uses of the major soils were evaluated for croplands, pasturelands,
and rangelends.
C~
J
