4-6 <br />the Mount Garfield Formation. <br />The Pdount Garfield Formation lies conformably upon the Sego <br />Sandstone, the oldest member of the Mesa Verde Group in this <br />area which lies conformably on the Mancos Shale. The Mount <br />Garfield Formation is conformably overlain by the Hunter Canyon <br />Formation, the upper unit of the flesa Verde Group in this area. <br />The Hunter Canyon Formation consists of buff and gray medium- <br />to coarse-grained massive cliff-forming sandstones and gray to <br />greenish-gray shales. The sandstones are often lenticular; and <br />crossbedding is common. The Hunter Canyon Formation is uncon- <br />formably overlain by the Paleocene Wasatch Formation. <br />Figure 4.2-5 (Section C " '-C " ) is a view due east showing coal <br />• seam correlations from Section 22, Township 7 South, Range 102 <br />West to Section 3, Township 8 South, Range 102 West. This figure <br />also shows water levels relative to the proposed permit area. <br />Figure 4.2-6 (Section H - H') is a view North 7o West, showing <br />correlations, clinker and landslide debris indicated by geo- <br />physical logs and mine development entries. <br />4.2.2 Structure <br />The Permit Area lies northeast of the Garmesa Anticline on the <br />south flank of the Piceance Basin. Regional dip is about two <br />degrees to the northeast. No faults are identified in the Permit <br />Area from interpretation of aerial photography, structural mapping <br />or coal seam correlations. <br />• <br />
