Reclamation implemented to date consists of revegetation of the pre-
existing dump and road pit the top of the dump. Native grasses, wild
rose bushes and even a raspberry patch have been established (next year"s
harvest is already spoken for though!).
Future reclamation plans include:
- Grading of proposed settling pond and ore dressing facility to
match the natura]. land contours,
- Grade the road to top of dump, using natural caving of the bank
where possible,
- Revegetate with native grasses and other species using seeds produced
from plants already inhabiting the property.
Attached are estimates from four local (Clear Creek County area)
contractors for the cost to regrade the existing road connection to the top
of the dump and for regrading of the proposed settling pond and ore dressing
facility. These estimates range from $60 to $B0. We feel that these are
fair estimates for the work involved, and expect the reseeding effort to
require minimal labor (at most a couple hours at minimum wage to scatter
seeds) and to utilize seed pods produced on site. Even if seed were purchased
it is a minimal expense.
I hope I have shown the Board that we are trying to be good citizens and
are complying with our reclamation plan. However since the mining
industry has been in one of its worst recessions during the past 5 years,
I feel that such attempts to squeeze more money from an industry so depressed
that few are even able to keep working, and to do it in the name of "current
economic conditions" is bordering on harassment. Given the current economic
conditions in the mining industry and our continued efforts at reclamation
through revegetation, I propose that the reclamation bond on the Phoenix mine
be left as is, or reduced to $80--the top bid received for regrading of
existing affected land and proposed future affected land as defined in the
mining plan.
Sincerely ours,
GL~'i>~~ varr~r 1
Alvin Mosch
PO Box 537
Idaho Springs, CO 80452
