1.2.5 Cultural Practices
In addition to 1998 replaced topsoil revegetation practices, Trapper also conducted several
other cultural practices. These practices are addressed below.
Mature Shrub Transplant Clumps
In 1998 Trapper completed construction on one mature shrub Gump and hall of another shrub
dump (due to muddy conditions) in Derringer Pit. One new mature shrub Gump is proposed
for construction in Ashmore Pit. The completion of the partial shrub clump in Derringer Pit is
also planned for 1999.
Drainage Reconstruction
The acreage's, location and methods are fully described in Section 3.0 of this annual report.
Contour Ditch Construction
During 1998, Trapper constructed approbmately 3,000 linear feet of contour ditches in
Derringer, Hawken and Ashmore Pits. Ditches were constructed to aid in our runoff control
system. After ditches were constructed, they were seeded to the appropriate range site mbc
based on their location.
Stock Tank Construction
No Stock Tanks were constructed during the 1998 field season. See Section 6.
Stock Tank Reclamation
No Stock Tanks were reclaimed during the 1998 field season. See Section 6.
Developmental Drill Sites
No Developmental drilling in 1998.
Topsoil Piles
See Section 5. Topsoil stockpiles were sloped and seeded to the approved 19M perennial
topsoil pile mbc Approbmatety 12.84 acres were treated.
Sediment Dams
During 1998, Middle Flume#3 sediment pond was constructed.
East Pyeatt #1, East Pyeatt #2, East Pyeatt #3 and No-Name #2 were cleaned. All dams
were broadcast-seeded with the approved seed mbL
Historical State Agricultural Holdings
As mining operations progress across our coal leases, Trapper affects former state agricul-
tural leases. Since 1976, Trapper has permitted the agricultural lessee to continue farming
practices but with the stipulation that Trapper withdraws acres from crop production when
mining advance dictates. Areas outside mining prestrip operations are in historical crop rest-
rotation (small grain) or converted to perennial haycrop. Cropland areas mined and reclaimed
are seeded to the approved perennial haycrop mbc Trapper continues to manage these areas
until they revert to historical use after bond release.
