CLASSIFICATION OF MAJOR COMPONENTS
Nihill channery loam, 1 to 6 percent slopes; Family Loamy -
skeletal, Mixed (calcareous), Mesic Ustic Torriorthents.
INCLUSIONS
Included with this soil mapping unit are small areas of Arvada
and ildefonso soils which make up to 10 to 15 percent of the mapping
unit. Ildefonso soils are loamy - skeletal, Mixed, Mesic Ustollic
Calciorthids. Arvada soil is found on the moderately sloping
areas.
MAPPING UNIT AW - TORRIFLUVENTS, NEARLY LEVEL
• Torrifluvents consist of deep, well to somewhat poorly drained
soils formed in alluvium. They occupy the nearly level flood-
plains adjacent to the Colorado River and its major tributaries,
such as Elk Creek, Roan Creek and Parachute Creek. Slopes are
0 to 6 percent. The soils are stratified and vary widely in tex-
ture and depth due to seasonal, fluctuating water levels. Surface
layers range from loamy sands and fine sand loams to silt loams
and clay loams. Underlying Layers are usually sandy loamy or
loams that are stratified with sand, gravel, and cobble. Some
areas have gravel and cobblestone on or near the surface. Water
levels fluctuate from 1 to 4 feet below the surface and may be
near the surface during spring runoff from snow melt. Areas of
this broadly defined unit are subject to brief occasional flooding
during late spring and early summer months. Capability subclass
VIIsw, non-irrigated.
•
I-15
