• C-008-81, included a portion of Mining Area 3 (see Exhibit 12-1,
Operations Plan, and Exhibit 9-1, Soil Types). Second, the Shop Area
soil survey addition, completed in November, 1980, is located in the
immediate vicinity of the Nucla hline office within the E 1/2 SW 1/4 SE
1/4, Section 25 and V1 1/2 SE 1/4 SE 1/4 of Section 25, T47N, R16W. This
survey information, presented as Attachment 9-2C to Tab 9, SMP C-008-81,
included all of Mining Areas 4 and 5 (see Exhibit 12-1, Operations Plan,
and Exhibit 9-1, Soil Types).
INTERPRETIVE STUDY OF THE SCRAPER PIT AREA
Soils within the scraper pit area (Mining Areas 7. and 3 as shown on
Exhibit 12-1, Operations Plan) at Nucla Mine are diverse and highly
variable. The following categories of map units were anticipated prior
to completing the survey for Areas 2 and 3:
1. Native undisturbed soils
2. Partially disturbed (A and B horizons removed or replaced)
native soils
• 3. Topsoiled regraded spoils
4. Subsoiled regraded spoils
5. Nontopsoiled regraded spoils.
An office photo interpretive study was initially completed for Areas 2
and 3 prior to the field survey to delineate and differentiate
undisturbed soils from reclaimed land. This was accomplished by
utilizing a magnification stereoscope, 1" = 400' and 1" = 1000' scale
black and white aerial photographs dated April 19, 1986, a 1" = 400'
scale topographic rtiap dated February, 1984, the 1975 SCS soils map (SMP
75-36, Exhibit C-5, Soils Map), the 1980 East Area Soils Map (SMP
C-008-81, Exhibit 9-1, Soil Types), and the monthly 1" = 400' scale 1983
reclamation progress maps. Following the photo interpretive study,
preliminary map units were delineated on the 1" = 400' aerial photo base
map and proposed soil sample locations were strategically placed to
confirm these soil map unit boundaries.
•
~-4-6 Revised 11;01/P6
