6. Neville-Nederland-Rizozo area
~.
Deep and shallow, gently sloping to moderately steep, well drained soils.
They formed in residuum from red sandstone, limestone, and cobbly end
gravelly alluvium.
This soil area is in the southwestern part of the survey area and
occupies about 3 percent of the total acreage. About 25 percent is
Neville soils, 15 percent Nederland soil and about 10 percent Rizozo soil.
The remaining 50 percent is soils of minor extent.
The Neville soil is deep and has a fine sandy loam surface layer and
loam substratum. The Nederland soil has a high content of gravel end
cobble. The Rizozo soil is shallow over red sandstone bedrock.
The minor soils in this area are the well drained Penrose, Manvel,
Satanta, Stroupe, and Travessilla soils.
Most of this soil area is used for grazing livestock, wildlife habitat,
woodland, and for military maneuvers. About 85 percent of the soil area
is on the Fort Carson Military Reservation. About half of the area is
in Pinon-Juniper type vegetation. There is a very small acreage of
cropland because of the limited precipitation.

~~
