EXHIBIT D (Cont'd) ~
stages of the mining and reclamation operation and a technical
revision will be requested. The tracts are designated Area 1,
2 and 3 on map Exhibit D-1. ~
The Ute pit is operated year round by Robinson Briclc and
Tile Company as a source of clays for its brick operation.
Robco has drilled 88 test holes on this property in order ~
to define the location, thickness and quality of the clay as well
as the thickness of the overlying overburden. The clay to be
i
mined will vary in thickness from approximately 10 feet to 45
feet or more. The amount of overburden varies between 6 feet
and 32 feet.
Soils are covered in a report prepared by tor. t9ark Heffner
of Oikos, Environmental Consultants. This report is included in
the application as Exhibits I and J. We expect to segregate and
stockpile between 10 and 14 inches of the preferred soils. We
quote from Atr. Heifner's summary: "There does not appear to be
any difficulty with the quantity or quality of existing soils
on the site; and by saving 12 inches of the material, excepting
the very thin and eroded Newlin soils, there should be sufficient
plant growth medium to reclaim all the affected lands."
Topographically, the land elevation drops in a direction
Prom east to west. This is in contrast to the normal west to
east loss in elevation along the front range. Thus, the drainage
pattern is also in opposition to the normal and runs east to
west across the property.
- 11 - I
