•
to a depth of .40 meters with one to two debitage flakes
found per 10 centimeter level. The unit also produced one
diagnostic McKean-like lanceolate projectile point (Figure 5 )
located in the top 10 centimeters of excavation.* Though
the quality of material retrieved from.-this unit was
low, it was consistent and unique from any other area of the
site. Test 6 proved to be sterile of any cultural material.
Test excavation was halted as a result of cultural
features encountered in adjacent backhoeing activities. This
practice was prescribed by the testing proposal and followed
throughout the site (Lennon and Wheeler 1980).
Tests 7 and 8 are also incomplete units, excavation being

halted for the aforementioned reason. Test 7, a controlled
1 x 1 meter unit, is located on the eastern perimeter of the

site. It was placed in the same vicinity where two diagnostic
projectiles, a Scottsbluff Type II (Figure 5) and a Plano basal
fragment (Figure 5 ), were located on the surface. The unit
was taken to a depth of .30 meters below surface prior to dis-
continuance of excavation procedures. The soil is a silt loam
with a very dark grayish brown coloration. Soil appeared to
be heavily disturbed by rodent activity. No cultural material
was associated.
Test 8, a cutbank unit, was located south and west of
Unit 4 (Map 2). The unit was excavated to .15 meters below
surface prior to abandonment. The soil is a silt with a gray
coloration. No cultural material was found in association.
* Personal communication, J. Wheat, June 1980.
13
