TESTING RESULTS - 5RT139 •
Introduction
The surface area of 5RT139 has proven to be quite
extensive, appro~cimately 550 meters east/west by 450 meters
north/south. Lit:hic material appears infrequently on the site
surface and is found in what could be denoted as concentrations,
and in most instances its occurrence is a result of surface
disturbance due to road cuts, stock tank construction, and
rodent activity centered around a small, ephemeral drainage
oriented to the northwest.
Qne possible attraction of this locale is the presence of
a spring to the west of the site area in what appeazs to be •
an eastern ephemeral drainage of Grassy Creek. The spring had
been developed historically, as evidenced by the presence of a
dry laid wall complex. The spring and associated structure were
recorded as 5RT146 (Wheeler 1980).
Testing procedures, as prescribed by the testing proposal
(Lennon and Wheeler 1980) were completed on June 2, 1980. Re-
commendations within the proposal indicated an adequate testing
program would be fulfilled through the completion of (1) a
surface map indicating exposed materials and features, (2) four
1 x 1 meter test pits, (3) four arroyo stratigraphy columns,
and (4) four backhoe trenches 20 meters long.
\J
S
