Revised April 5, 1985
• the Twentymile Park ground water basin display artesian water levels,
and some flow water at the surface, as shown in Table 26, Ground Water
Monitoring Data contained in the Energy Mine No. 3, Permit C-84-062.
Specifically, monitor well nos. 08-77-42, OS-77-43 and 08-77-58, shown
on Map 4, Mine No. 3 Hydrology Map (also contained in Permit No. C-84-
062), display sufficient artesian head to flow at the surface.
Groundwater also occurs in unconfined alluvial aquifers in the
proposed permit area. The alluvium deposited by fish Creek contains
water in isolated pockets of sand and gravel beneath the streambed.
This ground water is derived from underlying bedrock aquifers,
irrigation return flow and surface runoff which infiltrates into the
alluvium. Several shallow wells have been installed in the unconfined
alluvial aquifers within the proposed permit and adjacent area. Depth
of the alluvium ranges from 8 to 35 feet and is generally less than 20
feet, and depth to the water table is less than 10 feet, as shown in
• Table 31, Ground Water Monitoring Data. The extent of the
unconsolidated streamlaid deposits in the proposed permit and adjacent
area is shown on Map 5, Fish Creek Tipple Hydrology.
The lithology of the unconfined alluvial aquifers in the proposed
permit area is unconsolidated clay and sand, underlain by layers of
gravel. The thickness of the alluvium varies from 8 to 35 feet and is
generally less than 20 feet. These features are shown graphically on
Map 6, Fish Creek Tipple Stream Channel Cross Sections.
Known Uses of Ground Water
Groundwater in the proposed permit and adjacent area is used primarily
for agricultural purposes. Some wells are used for small industrial
supply, but none for municipal supply. The water supply wells
registered with the Colorado State Engineer's Office are shown on Map
5, Fish Creek Tipple Hydrology. As shown, the density of private
wells in the general area is sparse, due to low well yields and the
. rural population. Since no additional disturbance of the strata
containing the overburden aquifers existing beneath the proposed
2.04-21
