Mr. Hal Simpson
State Engineer's Office
October 14, 1993
Page 6
The well map does indicate there is potentially one well, Permit No. 14172R,
within 600 feet of the perimeter of the proposed gravel mining. The location
of Well No. 14172R will be verified in the field to determined if it is
within 600 feet of the mining operation. A waiver agreement will be obtained
from the well owner if it is within 600 feet of the proposed gravel pit
perimeter.
F. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOl~NDATIONS
1. Excavation of the gravel at the site will be done with a floating
dredge. A total of eight acres of lake surface will result from the
first year of operation. Additional exposed water surface, 1.4 acres,
will result from the wash plant settling ponds and the generator cooling
water return ditch. A total 90.7 acre-feet of evaporation is expected
for the first year.
2. Other water uses will include water diverted for dust control, 12.5
acre-feet; water retention in the excavated material, 23.6 acre-feet;
and water used for concrete production, 7.7 acre-feet.
3. The source of replacement water is water associated with the Buffalo
Creek Ditch (aka: Buffalo Canal). Approximately 31 acres of alfalfa
will be dried up which are irrigated by the Buffalo Canal. The dry up
will provide 84.7 acre-feet of water back to the stream system which
will offset the projected maximum annual consumptive use of the mining
operation of 84.4 acre-feet.
4. The site sits back from the river approximately 4000 feet and,
therefore, there is a delay in the timing of the depletions as they
reach the river. However, it is proposed in this plan that replacements
will be done during the irrigation season.
5. There appears to be one well which is within 600 feet of the proposed
gravel pit. A wavier agreement will be obtained from each well owner
having a well within 600 feet.
6. The applicant will use the attached accounting form to keep record of
monthly water use. These forms will be made available to the Water
Commissioner or the Division Engineer upon request.
7.. This plan is requested for one year with the option for renewal.
8. An annual report will be supplied to the State Engineer.
