Nr. Hal Simpson
State Engineer's Office
October 14, 1993
Page 5
3. Timing of Replacement
The site is approximately 4000 feet from the Arkansas River. Consequently,
the time lag of the depletions to the river was not assumed to be
instantaneous. Timing of the depletions was found by using the computer
model, Analytical Stream Depletion Model, by Dewayne R. Schroder from the
State Engineer's Office.
Values for the input parameters and results of the computer model are
attached with this letter. The well location was assumed to be at the center
of the proposed lakes. The impermeable boundary was located on a USGS
topographic map.
The USGS publication, Pumping Tests in Colorado - Colorado Ground Water
~.rcular Nom. 11, was used to estimate the value of transmissivity. Data was
evaluated from this publication and a transmissivity of 200,000 gallons per
da.y per feet was used for the model.
A value of 0.2 was used for Specific Yield which would be typical of an
alluvial aquifer.
The depletions at the pit were converted from acre-feet per month to gallons
per minute for use with the computer model. Table No. 4 lists the results
from the depletions analysis which shows the timing of the depletions at the
river due to the mining operation at Mid-Western Farms Resources.
A,; shown on Table No. 4 only 45.2 acre-feet of depletion will occur at the
river during the first year of operation. However, in this plan sufficient
replacements are being made to the stream system to offset the full
depletions at the gravel pit.
It is proposed in this plan that all replacements are made to the stream
during the irrigation season as a result of the dry up of 31 acres of
alfalfa.
S,. SURROUNDING KATER RIGHTS
A map and tabulation of surrounding water rights and well permits are
attached with this letter. water rights and well permits for shallow wells
are identified which lie within approximately 1/2 mile of the subject
property. Specific locations were plotted if distances from section lines
were provided.
