• SENECA II
RESPONSE TO COMMENTS OF JUNE 15, 1988
TECHNICAL REVISION N0. 14
Tab 7-Hvdrolo
1. Page 7-265, dated October 1, 1986, specified "Mining will disturb
approximately 6.6 percent of this drainage area." Revised page
7-265, dated May 16, 1988, states "Mining was initially projected
to disturbed approximately 9.0 percent of this drainage area."
Please clarify this apparent discrepancy and update application
pages, as necessary.
Response:
No additional updating of text pages should be necessary to respond to
this comment. In redigitizing the disturbance areas to determine the
increase in disturbance area represented by the East Wadge Extension
Area, an error was discovered in the calculation of the original
disturbance area. Digitized measurements indicate that approximately
335.76 acres were to be originally disturbed in the Bond Creek drainage.
This represents 9 percent of the 5.8 square mile Bond Creek drainage
area. Disturbance associated with the East Wadge Extension Area was
measured to encompass approximately 35.3 additional acres or 1 percent
of the total Bond Creek drainage area. This correction was made in the
• text as part of Technical Revision No. 14.
~ 2. Table 7-80 on revised page 7-277, dated May 16, 1988, has a column
entitled "Most Recent Concentration (mg(1)." Buried in the text is
the actual date of this measurement. To avoid confusion and to
provide readily accessible information, the actual date of the
measurement should be specified on this table.
Response:
Table 7-80 has been revised to reflect the date of the most recent
parameter concentrations. Please replace the old copies of page 7-277
with the attached.
3. A review of the maps reveal that same of the disturbance being
proposed by Peabody will occur in the drainage basin where the
future Pond 009 is proposed to be installed. During the interim,
however, Exhibit 7-7 reveals a ditch is proposed to be installed at
the toe of the proposed new deadhead route to force drainage into
the Pond 008 drainage basin. The Division is concerned that
drainage remain on-site and is treated prior to release from the
site. Therefore, please provide the actual calculations developed
and assumptions used to size this ditch for the maximum storm event
and verify that this additional drainage can be handled by Pond
008. Also, please delineate on this exhibit the drainage area
• contributing to this diversion ditch.
1
