TECHNICAL REVISION t.0. 11
• Permit No. C-005-80
Wadge Pit P!orth Scraper Area
Operation Description - General
Peabody proposes to mine a portion of the Wadge Pit east of the powder
storage area with scrapers (see Exhibit 12-1). This area was initially
scheduled to be mined in 1990 and 1991 with the 7708 dragline. Currently,
scrapers are uncovering coal in the existing north-south Wadge Pit (see
Minor Revision Plo. 24). These scrapers would be moved to the new scraper
area after one cut of approximately 100 feet width along the entire length
of the existing north-south pit has been completed.
The purpose for this move to the new scraper pit is to preserve as long a
pit length as possible in the lJadge pit, to mine an area with favorable
coal ratios and access, easier reclamation, and to provide additional time
• for the 7706 to be repaired, dig out of its present location and uncover a
sufficient amount of coal to establish a coal inventory.
The area will be mined in a northeast-southwest orientation and will
progress southeasterly. Three cuts will be generally developed
approximately parallel to the strike of the coal starting at the cropline
on the north. Each cut will be approximately 220 feet wide. The
overburden material from the first cut will be placed adjacent to the
northwest cropline and within the disturbance boundary. Overburden from
the second and third cuts will be backfilled into the first and second
cuts, respectively. Stockpiled spoil from the first cut will be hauled
and/or graded back into the mined area. A portion of the third cut
highwall will be graded back into the mined area to cover the coal in the
highwall and provide a transition into the existing topography and
backfilled cuts.
Approximately 360,000 cubic yards of overburden will be moved to mine
. 143,200 tons of coal. The coal averages 9.3 feet and overburden averages
1 02/13/87
