Upland Gravel Pit No. 3
Response to BLM Request for Additional Information
January 20, 2006
9.) Response: Fencing is anticipated which surrounds the active excavation limits of each
sales contract. Fencing is proposed to be steel fence posts with two (2) strands of smooth wire
and warning signs (no entry /mine site) posted at intervals on perimeter fencing. A security
gate shall be installed on Springfield Ranch property on the proposed haul road which will be
closed when all Upland Gravel employees leave the extraction site.
Safety mitigation related to gun range activities shall take place on gun club property to insure
no projectiles leave the gun club property.
10.) Response: A 1"-200' Site Plan was supplied to BLM as part of the Conditional Use Permit
application to Mesa County. Significant changes to the proposed haul road route were
requested during the review process resulting in a B-Road connection. B Road is presently
being used exclusively by United Companies as a haul road from their pit. A revised 1"=200'
Site Plan is attached which shows the current proposed haul road route, security gate, scales,
etc.
11.) Response: Dust control mitigation during stripping of top soil and overburden shall be by
confining activities to non-windy days or when materials have been moistened by precipitation.
Stripping of top soil and overburden shall be held to a minimum needed to allow extraction of
the gravel resources and shall process concurrently. Dust control of the processing area
(crushing, screening, stockpiling, loading and haulage) shall be by sprinkling systems and water
trucks supplied by water piped to the processing area from Springfield Ranch property (See
Water Information (112) Application Exhibit G).
72.) Response: Truck capacity shall vary according to the vehicle. Primarily 16 ton capacity
end dump trucks shall be used to transport materials. However, they may at times have 10 ton
capacity pups attached . Semi-tractors with belly dump trailers shall also be used which have a
capacity of 24 ton. Colorado DOT limits gross vehicle weight to 80,000 Ibs, resulting in a
maximum of 48-50,000 Ibs. materials or hauling capacity.
-2-
