Section 816.152 (b) Continued.
horizontal curve beglna or ends at the crest or sag of a vertical
curve and 1n such a manner as to control erosion, simplify drainage
design and maximize safety and environmental results.
(c) Road Cuts.
(1) Cut slopes shall not be steeper than specifically authorized by the
regulatory authority which shall not authorize slopes steeper than
1v: 1.Sh in unconsolidated materials or 1v:0.25h 1n rock, except that
steeper slopes may be specifically authorized by the regulatory author-
ity if geotechnical analysis demonstrates that a minimum safety factor
of 1.5 can be maintained.
(2) Topsoil or other materials suitable under 30 CFR 816.22 shall be
placed on all cut slopes of 1v:1.5h or flatter to aid in establishing
vegetation and to minimize erosion. Topsoil depth shall be adequate to
support vegetation necessary to control erosion.
(3) Temporary erosion-control measures shall be implemented during
construction to minimize sedimentation and erosion until permanent
control measures can be established.
Cut slopes will not exceed the above specified standards (See:
Figure 25, Existing Class I Road - Typical Sections, and Figure 26,
Proposed Class I Road - Typical Sections). During road construc-
tion, temporary sedimentation ponds, check dams, diversion ditches,
etc., will be constructed as required so that applicable water
quality standards are maintained throughout the construction period.
All cut slopes will be seeded and mulched to aid in establishing
vegetation and to minimize erosion.
816-182
