Section 816.153 (b) Continued Revised 1/15/81 <br />hour precipitation event without a head of water at the entrance. <br />Culverts with an end area of greater than 35 square feet, and bridges <br />with spans of 30 feet or less, shall be designed to safely pass the <br />20-year, 24-hour precipitation event. Bridges with spans of more than <br />30 feet shall be designed to safely pass the 100-year, 24-hour precipi- <br />tation event or a larger event as specified by the regulatory authority. <br />(ii) Drainage pipes and culverts shall be constructed to avoid plugging <br />or collapse and erosion at inlets and outlets. <br />(iii) Trash racks and debris basins shall be installed in the drainage <br />ditches wherever debris from the drainage area could impair the func- <br />tions of drainage and sediment-control structures. <br />(iv) All culverts shall be covered by~compacted fill to a minimum depth <br />of 1 foot. <br />(v) Culverts shall be designed, constructed, and maintained to sustain <br />the vertical soil pressure, the passive resistance of the foundation, <br />and the weight of vehicles to be used. <br />(2) Culverts for road-surface drainage only shall be constructed in <br />accordance with the following: <br />i~ <br />816-191 bb <br />
