SHELTON, Director
February 6, 1986
Mr. Tom Logue
Armstrong and Associates, Inc.
~ 861 Rood Avenue
Grand Junction, Colorado 81501
Re: Rudy Fontanari; Whitewater Sandstone Quarry - File No. M-86-002
Dear Mr. Logue:
The above application may not conform with the total requirements or intent of
the Rules and Regulations of the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board. The
items below specify remaining concerns regarding your application and suggest,
where appropriate, viable solutions and alternatives for problems discussed.
Please respond accordingly no later than February 26-27, 1986 to allow time
for staff review prior to the scheduled Board Meeting.
1. Please describe the nature of your major, moderate, and minor disturbance.
2. Of the acreage permitted, what is the total acreage to be disturbed?
3. Will disturbance be limited to the actual quarry area and access road
alone?
4. It appears that the quarry does not intersect the adjacent draw, Please
verify the existence of arty undisturbed gutter to be maintained between
the quarry and the draw.
5, Please explain the need for the hay bale dike. Is the purpose for
temporary erosion/sediment control for the quarry area? Regardless,
please explain how drainage will be handled within the quarry area as part
of final reclamation ,
6. Please justify why vertical pit walls along the mine perimeter up to~
fifteen feet in height must remain up on final reclamation. How will
livestock be protected from this hazard.
~7. Please identify your topsoil stockpile area. The Division recommends that
the upper foot of overburden be maintained on site for possible use during
reclamation should the intended end use not occur.
8. The Division has not received the wildlife report for this operation to
date. Please update us as to its status.
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203 Tel.
