. 2.05.4 Reclamation Plan
The land included in the permit area is private ranch land used
for danestic livestock grazing, primarily sheep. The program to re-
vegetate mined areas will result in a marked improvement in forage pro-
duction aru3 quality. fall areas disturbed by mining will be revegetated
except roads and Fond 5/6. Roads and ponds are considered valuable de-
velopments on ranch land. The surface owner has requested that haul
roads and sediirent ponds be retained as they are for better access to
his property and for use as livestock ponds. Further, he has requested
that only range grasses be replanted. Production efficiency will be
i~~mved by increased ease of access and grazing distribution flexibility.
In general, better grazing management and improved production will also
benefit wildlife.
kbrk to revegetate disturbed areas at The Rockcastle Cnmpany has been
underray for several years. As new areas are opened up temporary and
construction-related disturbances will be stabilized and revegetated.
These include ;mainly road corridors, pond sideslopes, equi~nerat turnaround
areas, and topsoil stockpiles. Fevegetation progress will be evaluated in
subsequent years and, as conditions may dictate, adjustments made to im-
prove reclamation technique.
2.05.4(2)(a) Timetable
Reclamation of the pits is tied to production schedules. Proposed
schedules are shown in Section 2.0.3, Operation Plan.
Figure 1 shows the schedules for mining and reclamation for each area.
Pit 4 will be mined sequentially according to classic strip mining
technique. As the timetable shows, reclamation earthwork and revegetation
will proceed concurrently with production.
Reclamation earthwork includes backfillinq and grading, and topsoilinq.
These are discussed in greater detail in subsequent sections. Initial
. revelation will generally be done in the fall. 'the timetable presupposes
2-35 IV-1
