.~
The Rockcastle Company has established a fertilization plan and will
continue to follow this plan for the remainder of the mine life. The
Rockcastle Company will fertilize all retopsoiled areas with mono
ammonium phosphate (100 lb/acre) and ammonium nitrate 34-0-0 (200 lb/acre).
Both these products are obtained from Hayden Grain Company and are produced
by Co-op. These are standard fertilizers used by farmers and ranchers
in the area.
The Rockcastle Company will use both preventive and remedial actions
to control rills and gullies at the Grassy Gap Coal Mine. To prevent
formation (and/or reoccurence) of rills and gullies, The Rockcastle
Company will install a series of contour furrows along reclaimed surfaces
to slow the velocity of runoff. On particularly steep slopes or areas where
rill and gully formation is known to be a problem, The Rockcastle Company
will use a combination of contour furrows and diversion ditches to divert
runoff away from the problem area.
When excessive rills and gullies are observed, The Rockcastle Company
will stablize them by filling, compacting where appropriate, and re-
seeding. Where necessary to allow for stabilization, diversion ditches
will be constructed above the eroded areas.
~l
~~.
2-85
•
IV-15a
