378-I2 Pond <br />Fill adjacent to structures, pipe <br />conduits, and drainfill ar <br />antiseep collars shall be <br />compacted to a density equivalent <br />to that of the surrounding fill by <br />hand tamping or by using manually <br />directed power tampers or platE <br />vibrators. Fill adjacent to <br />concrete structures shall not be <br />compacted until the concrete has <br />had time to gain enough strength <br />to support the load. <br />Protection <br />A protective cover of vegetation <br />shall be established an all <br />exposed surfaces of the <br />embankment, spillway, and borrow <br />area if soil and climatic <br />conditions permit. If soil or <br />climatic conditions preclude the <br />use of vegetation and protection <br />is needed, non-vegetative cover <br />such as mulches or gravel may be <br />used. In some places, temporary <br />vegetation may be used until <br />permanent vegetation can be <br />established. The embankment and <br />spillway shall be fenced if <br />necessary to protect the <br />vegetation.. <br />Ponds for fish shall be fenced if <br />livestock are present. It aids in <br />preventing muddy water and makes <br />the pond area more pleasing <br />aesthetically.,_ <br />rreparing the seedned, seeding, <br />fertilizing, and mulching shall <br />comply with instructions in <br />Technical euides. <br />Conorete <br />Concrete shall consist of a <br />tnorough workable mixture of <br />clean, sound, durable well-graded <br />aggregate, not less than 6 sacks <br />of Portland cement per cubic ya• <br />of concrete, and clean water <br />suitable for dr+nking not to <br />exceed 6 gallons per 94 lbs. of <br />cement. <br />The cement shall be Type II, IIA, <br />or V. Type V shall be used where <br />the sulfate concentration is over <br />O.c:% for sot l or 1,000 ppm for , <br />water. Pozzoians may be used to <br />replace not more than 15% of the <br />cement by weight. Accelerators <br />or antifreeze compounds shall not <br />be used. <br />Concrete shall be <br />protected against <br />per• i od of 5 days <br />adequately <br />freezing for a <br />after placement. <br />Principal spillway <br />Corrugated metal pipe shall <br />conform to the requirements of <br />Federal Specifications WW-P-402 • <br />WW--P-405 . <br />Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe <br />shall conform to ASTM D-17E5 or D- <br />2241. Antiseep collars shall be <br />of materials compatible with that <br />of the pine and shall DE installed <br />so that they are watert,ght. <br />Foundation and embankment drains <br />Foundation and embankment drains, <br />if required snall be paced tc the <br />line anc graoe shown nr, the <br />orawinos.
