of the embankment will be constructed to minimum construction
standazds and specifications of Montrose County, Colorado, for County
acceptance approximately 7-I S yeazs after completion.
3. RECOMMENDED G60TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
General geotechnical specifications and related notes are summarized
on the attached Figure I .
3.1 FOUNDATION ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA
At the time of this report, 007 pond had been excavated to total depth
exposing sandstone bedrock along the entire length of the embankment
foundation. Since excavation of the pond, 1 to 2 feet of sediment has
settled into the pond bottom in the area of the embankment.
• To reduce the potential for excessive settlements of the rockfill
embankment, we recommend the structure be founded directly on the
sandstone bedrock at the bottom of the pond. This will require that the
recently deposited sediment be removed and bedrock exposed within
the footprint azea of the rockfill embankment. We recommend that a
representative of our firm be present during this operation to confirm
the presence and type of bedrock exposed in the foundation and to
make any adjustments to the geotechnical specifications if necessazy.
3.2 ROCKFILL MATERIAL
"Rockfill" is defined as containing less than 50% (by weight) smaller
than 1-inch diameter particles and a maximum rock particle size being
75% of lift thickness (14 inches for 18-inch lifts, 18 inches for 24-inch
lifts), necessary to provide a relatively smooth surface for compaction.
The rockfill must also contain less than 15% (by weight) fines passing
• 3
