EXHIBIT J - Vegetation Information
1. Narrative Description
(a) Description of present vegetation types:
The eurrem types of vegetation established across the proposed area of operations consist of
mixed grasses and forbs and shrubs. Vegetation height ranges from low ground cover short
grasses to low shrubs less than 20 inches in height and some trees. Types of vegetation and
approximate percentages are as follows:
• ] 0% Various forbs and shmbs including: broom snakeweed, winter fat, Indian
paintbrush, prairie clover
• 5% Minor trees including: pinion/mountain juniper, cottonwood
• 85 % mixed grasses including: blue grams, sideoats gams, little bluestem, galleta and
needle -and-thread grass, squirrel tail, and western wheatgrass
(b) Relationship of present types of vegetation to soil types.
The present vegetation is homogeneous (Mixed grasses) across the site and not dependent on
whether the soils are of the Wiley-kim complex or the Sohamber gravels. Test pits indicate
that topsoil is relatively uniform in composition and thickness across the proposed area of
operations. Where present the average topsoil depths range from 4 to 6 inches in depth.
Some trees and low shrubs are present on the southern ridge and along the abandoned ditch
and old pit aeeas on the north end of the site. The small pinions and mountain juniper on the
south ridge will be removed as part of phase operations in those areas. AlT other existent trees
will not be disturbed.
The normal potential natural vegetation on the Wiley soils is predominately mixed grasses. If
the range deteriorates, the proportion of blue gamma generally increases_
(c) Carrying capacity for range lands on or in the vicinity of the affected land.
• The carrying capacity of the Wiley-kim soil type for its normal characteristic vegetation
in Ibs/ac are as follows: I) Favorable year- 8001bs(ac, 2) Normal year- 500 Ibs/ac, 3)
Unfavorable year - 3001bs/ac.
• The carrying capacity of the Schambee-midway complex soils for its normal
characteristic vegetation in Ibs/ac are as follows: l) Favorable year- 700 Ibs/aq 2)
Normal year - 450 lbs/ac, 3) Unfavorable yeaz - 200 Ibs/ac.
Z. Average elevations in and around the proposed area of operations ranges from 6000 to 6200 fee[
AMSL. The slope at the site trends from a ridge in the south, down and across the site towards the
county road R.O. W. on the northern errd at art approximate 3.5% average grade. As stated itt I (b)
above, the site vegetation is homogeneous across the proposed area of operations and on adjacent
areas with no particulaz affect due to topographic elevation or soil type_
