A 500 tph (maximum) vibrating feeder under the hopper feeds the coal
onto Conveyor C-1 for transportation to the loadout. The feeder is a
suspended, electro-mechanical type with controls. Feeder pans are
lined with high molecular weight polymer, replaceable liners; and
there are Safety slings and dust seals for connection to skirts.
Moving parts of all equipment are readily accessible for inspection,
lubrication, repair, and where necessary, are protected from the flow
of conveyor material. The pans are designed with a freeze protection
spray system to prevent wet coal from freezing to the pans and
clogging the system. A manually operated rack and pinion cutoff gate
allows removal of the feeder for service, while a manually set gate
regulates the feeder material bed depth.
A number of sensors are used at the truck dump to indicate various
stages of the operation. A shining light, activated by a high-level
sensor, indicates a full hopper, while a low-level sensor shuts down
• the feeder to prevent the hopper from being drawn empty during loading
operations. Another sensor gives the truck drivers a signal when they
are in position to dump.
Dust emission control is facilitated by a shirt with a dust
suppression spray system at the hopper and another spray system at the
feeder area. The dust suppression system operates manually or automa-
tically, utilizing material for sensing switches. In addition to
signalling the driver when a truck is in position to dump, the flow
sensing switch activates the spray system as the coal is dumped into
the hopper. The freeze protection spray system operates in a similar
manner. A wind shield protects the top of the hopper from excessve
dusting and helps to control noise during truck dumping.
(2) Conveyor
The configuration of Conveyor C-1 is shown on Drawing D-4-13.
