Cross-sections A and B on sheet number 1 of 2 were taken from Snowmass
Coal Company survey data as shown on sheet number 2 of 2. As shown on
• Section A, the maximum section, the toe of the proposed embankment,
will encroach to within 10 feet (the maximum encroachment) of the top
of the bank of North Thompson Creek, but the elevation of the toe will
remain at least 2 feet above the 100-year flood plain. Although much
greater than the 100 foot limitation required by the Division under
section 4.05.18, this encroachment is necessary due to the extremely
limited available space. Stream buffer zone markers will be placed at
the downstream toe of the proposed embankment, unless otherwise
requested by the Division.
Although the specific floodplain that the existing pond is located in
was not calculated, the bottom of the pond is located 20 feet above
the 100-year floodplain in Section A and 16 feet above the 100-year
floodplain in Section B. Because the minimum freeboard for the toe of
the embankment is at least 2 feet above the 100-year floodplain, the
outslope of the embankment will not need to he protected from potential
floods.
r 1
L J
Reclamation of the refuse disposal pond is discussed in Section 4.4.
The refuse pile was inspected during construction under the super-
vision of, and certified after construction by, a qualified registered
professional engineer. Certification of the constructed refuse pile
will be forwarded to the Division immediately following final
reclamation.
n
U
4-23
