The water level will be
lowered to about 14 feet below the surface contour, The
reason for this is that a conventional dragline operation
becomes inefficient in more than 10 feet of water. The
14-foot water level will be maintained until another 10 feet
of material is removed. Dewatering will then continue to a
depth of about 22 feet. Excavation will continue until the
depth of the pit is about 30 feet. This is not the bottom
of the gravel deposit, but it is the depth limit for the
dragline being used.
Slopes of 3:1 will be maintained from 4958 feet to
4973 feet, approximately 10 feet below and 5 feet above the
permanent water line when the lake is at its average level
of 4968 feet. Slopes below 4958 feet will be 2:1 to the
bottom of the pit. An even, level bottom will be maintained
as each stage reaches its greatest depth.
Stages 2 and 3 will proceed in much the same manner
as Stage 1 except the dewatering process will maintain the
water level reduced to its lowest point while Stages 2 and 3
are in operation.
Phase 1 of the reclamation plan will commence as
soon as Stage 1 of the mining operation is completed.
Phases 2 and 3 of the reclamation plan likewise will follow
immediately upon completion of Stages 2 and 3 of the mining
operation.
Fi
