It is overlain by spotty deposits of
river silt which vary in thickness from~0 to 15 inches.. The
maximum depth of operation will be 30 feet; therefore, the
formations underlying the river alluvium will not be reached.
The property is 9.99 acres which completely surround
a 2.81 acre pit mined several years ago, prior to Delta
Sand & Gravel Co. ownership, by Coors. (See map, Exhibit C-1.)
The area of affected land is 9.7 acres.
Mining operations commenced with the removal of the
small amounts of river silts present being pushed to and
stored on the north end of the property. This material will
be used for topsoiling where necessary and for construction of
one or more (hopefully three) islands.
Stage 1 of the actual mining operation commenced on
the north end of the property. See the affected lands map,
Exhibit C-1, for the areas to be covered by mining Stages 1,
2 and 3. 1Vater is encountered about four feet below the
surface, and from that point to about ten feet in depth, the
operation is conducted in the water. All material is removed
from the pit by using a conventional dragline. The dragline
loads on trucks, and the sand and gravel is trucked to the
permanent crushing plant off the affected lands.
5
