1 <br />' 2. The soils will be tested at the time of reclamation <br />for fertilizer. If necessary, fertilizer will be <br />applied in the amounts and rate specified by the <br />tests. The fertilizer will be evenly spread using <br />' a minimum of equipment passes to prevent <br />compaction. <br />' 3. The prepared surfaces will then be seeded using <br />the mixtures and seeding rates recommended in the <br />following section. Seeding will either be by <br />rangeland drill or broadcasting, depending on <br />' working area and steepness of slope. <br /> 4. Erosion control practices will be <br /> implemented as necessary during ongoing reclamation <br />' activities. <br />' E.2.5 Seedino Mixtures and Rates <br />' Recommended seed mixtures and rates have been formulated <br />based on the known climatic and soil conditions of the project <br />area. The average annual precipitation bf about l5 inches is <br />' sufficient to support grasslands, shrub/grassland:, and pinyon <br />juniper woodland (depending, of course, on slope and aspect). <br />' Because most of the areas to be disturbed currently support <br />a sagebrush shrub vegetation wiih little grass :over, it is <br />' believed that both wildlife habitat and range conditions can <br />be improved by establishing a post-mining community that is <br />' predominantly a grassland, with scattered shrubs and trees. <br />Because natural invasion of shrubs and trees will occur over <br />1 <br /> <br />E-6 (Revised 4/20/89) <br />
