' and storing sediment from exposed and erodible surfaces will
be built prior to construction start-up in any particular area.
These structures will be maintained as necessary. Small check
dams will be placed as necessary below slopes as temporary
' erosion control measures until revegetation is far enough along
to provide a stabilized slope condition. A complete discussion
' of diversion and sediment control is contained in Section D.\9.
E.2.3 Grading and Stabilization
Slopes will be shaped for reclamation during the material
placement or removal except in the leach pad area. Depending
on the type of material, erodibility, and the practical
' considerations of the mining process, overall slope grades will
range from 1H:1V to near flat.
' Loose faces of slopes will be "walked" with a dozer to
partially compact the surfaces prior to placing topsoil. Haul
' and access roads to be reclaimed will be graded or have the
edge berm pulled back prior to revegetation. [n addition,
' compacted surfaces will be ripped or scarified. These roads
will be outsloped and drained with cross ditches or water bars
' to prevent them from acting as drainages.
E.2.4 Surface and Seedbed Preparation
1
Seedbed preparation for areas tc be revegetated will
' take place after grading, stabilization, and topsoil placement
and will include:
'
1. Compacted surfaces will be loosened and left in
t a rough condition by ripping, disking, or other
h
i
f
l
d
bl
an
ca
means. Loose ero
e sur
aces may need
mec
i
to be "dozer-tracked" to prevent sloughing before
' amendments, seed, and mulch are applied.
E-5
