Doc Date:12/11/ 02 01 III III I II I II IIII III
s9s
•
r1
U
•
fIr 4.21 COAL EXPLORATION _ _ _ _.
4.21.1 SCOPE
This section sets forth minimum performance standards and design
requirements required for coal exploration which substantially disturbs
the natural land surface.
4.21.2 GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY OF PERSONS CONDUCTING COAL EXPLORATION
EFCI may conduct coal exploration which will disturb the natural land
surface and in which less than 250 tons of coal will be removed. Any such
exploration activities will comply with applicable requirements of Rule
4.21.
4.21.3 REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
EFCI does not plan any coal exploration in which more than 250 tons of
coal will be removed. Specifically, EFCI's future coal exploration
activities may involve limited core drilling and geophysical studies.
Therefore, the regulations contained in this sub-section are not
applicable.
4.21.4 PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
EFCI may conduct limited exploration within the existing permit area in
order to more accurately define the extent and quality of available coal
reserves. Exploration will not be conducted in areas identified as having
unique habitat values since none have been identified in permit or
adjacent areas. Exploration activities will be conducted to prevent
significant adverse environmental impacts and minimize disturbance of the
prevailing hydrologic balance. All areas disturbed by exploration and
related activities will be reclaimed utilizing the methods described in
Section 2.05.4, Reclamation Plan.
4.21-1
