2.05.5 Post Mining Land Use
Additional Comments
The specific utilization of the operations bench
following the abandonment of Sunland's mining operatipn
will be (as it should be) left to the discretion of the
landowner (Knott Land S Livestock Co.). As far as land
use classification is concerned, this area will be rekurned
to approximate original contour at an absolute elevation
of three to five feet higher than pre-mining elevation.
This will leave this area to an equal suitability for range-
land and wildlife habitat as it was before mining.
The only change in post mining land use which can even
be speculated upon is the indication mentioned in the letter
(page 187.1) from Knott Land 6 Livestock Co. wherein khey
mention a tentative interest in purchasing certain surface
buildings and the septic system. The Knotts may, thetefore,
undertake on their own (beyond the control of Sunland) a
change in utilization to suit their purposes.
2.05.6 Additional comments on
Air Pollution Control
The measures described on page 188 have historically
been sucessful in eliminating and/or controlling air pollution
resulting from our coal handling facilities. The desAgn
and emission calculations on page 192 were based on 120,000
tons per year. This figure was purposly sized to be SOY,
of our actual planned production to assure a comfortable "worst
case" basis. Should excessive air pollution be generated
by our coal handling facilities, Sunland will install water
sprays at those points where necessary to abate any excessive
dust generation.
In addition, those conditions specified by the Cplorado
Department of Health on our Emission Permit (/IC-12,344(FD) on
page 191) will be adhered to.
2.05.6(3) Additional comments on
Hydrologic Balance Protectipn ~
The analysis of the bench fill material (as contained.
in section 2.04.7) indicates that no hazard of toxic material
"leaching" from the fill materal per se exists. The perme-
ability of the settling pond is sufficiently low (page 176)
so as to preclude contamination of groundwater from contained
surface water collection. The septic system was designed
to handle several times the volume that it handles, and it
was fully approved by the Routt County Health Department.
The analysis of our coal indicates that the likelihood of
~, os~ogi8~
19t,.I
