MITIGATIO[J OF IMPACTS
Quantity of Water Resources
Water historically used on the mining site
will partially offset stream flow depletion resulting from
future water use. Adams County owns 11.5 shares of the Lower 4r
Clear Creek Ditch Company, one share of the o orado A - ~~
Ficultural Ditch Company an s ayes of the Brantner /~A''~.~
Ditch Company. The a *_er yie]~~ed by the shares from these ('~o~ 1
three ditch companies have bean used in past years to irri-
gate 371 acres on a mining mite. The total amount of water
consumed on the property has been 840.08 amore-feet annually
(see Appendix A. Water Rights Evaluation).
e
To ensure that an adequate legal sup?ly of water is
available to irrigate. the grass and schrubs in the park
water from the two ditches and the effective precipitation
from land irrigated by the wells ar.d the dry grasslands will
be used to balan~;~ future water use. The.~.;-~-.acre-feet ~y27,'i'3J
of water that will be consumed under future conditions will
be mitigated by 840.08 acre-feet of water that iias historically
been used on the property (see Appendix B. Water Balance).
The difference in water uses is =nacre-feet annually. r~7vy
Water from the Brantner .;nd the Lower Clear Crc;ek ditches
6wi11 not be used tc~,cover thi, evaporation. of warmer fromy~
acres of open lake surface. Evaporation (Difference between
historic and future water use) rrom the lakes amounts to
4y3y1'~= ~ acre-feet during the months of April through October
[G8.3B and-~}g$--1~ acres-feet for the months of November through
March. These depletion rates are eyui.valant to ~,~5 cfs /~ y
during April tF~rough October and 0.,~( cfs from P'.ovember
through March. The impact cf the flo~•~ depletion on the
South Platte River is negligible; no mitigation of the evap-
oration loss is planned.
Ground V]ater Level Drawdown
There will be no impact from raising or lowering the
water table throughout the mining pro pert;. Irrigation and
domestic wells in the vicinity of the property are located
at distances great enough so as not to be significantly affect-
ed by the lowering or the rising of the water levels. The
water level in the domestic well ir, the NW, of the NE; of
Section 34 will be raised approximately 3.U feet above the
historic levels. The historic water levels in the flood
plain have been approximately 10 feet ueneath the land surface.
Raising the w .er level 3.0 feet in the well will not affect
the performance of the well. The depth to water in the well
after reclamation will be ~.0 feet. Eater levels in the
-14-
