• that could Prompt HGTI to re-activate the loadout in the near future.
These opportunities include constructing the currently approved rail
unloading facilities or, a new long-term coal-supply contract that would
utilize currently undeveloped coal reserves southwest of Hayden, Colorado,
controlled by Peabody Energy Corporation. Seneca Coal Company, e
subsidiary of Peabody Coal Company, has a contract with the Hayden Power
Generation Station to supply aBProximately 1.7 million tons of coal Dar
year through 2011. If the Hayden Station increases its power generation
capacity, Seneca Coal Company might choose to meet the increased coal
demand by rail haulage from another source. Tha coal would most likely be
hauled into the Hayden Gulch Loadout, unloaded, and then transferred to the
Hayden Station. Peabody Energy Corporation has recently conducted coal
exploration oa coal reserves southwest of Hayden in the vi ciaity of the
Hayden Gulch Mine. HGTI could use these reserves to fulfill a long-term
coal-supply contract, in which case, the loadout would be used to load the
rail haulage.
Since DMGs approval of the original permit application (Permit C-92-081) in
May 1993, HGTI has submitted several revisions. A brief sun¢oary of the
• revisions follows.
RNO1 - Permit Renewal O1 (approved July 16, 1998)
SR04 - Incidental Permit Boundary Change (approved September 24, 1999)
TROS - Coal Handling Facilitie6 Modification (approved July 24, 2000)
rIIi10 - Midterm Review, Response to Coxmnents (approved June 15, 2001)
In addition to these approved revisions, the DMG approved the Succession of
Operators application for the Hayden Gulch Mine oa January 21, 2003. The
Successi oa of Operators application transferred Permit C-80-003, Hayden
Gulch Mine, from H-G Coal Company to HGTI. While the two properties (the
surface mine and rail loadout facility) originally covered under Permit C-
80-003 are once again owned/operated by the same company, they will retain
their existing and separate coal and reclamation permits issued by DMG.
3 Revised 3/20/03
