NOTICE OF INTENT TO EXPLORE PAGE 9
INVOLVING REMOVAL OF 250 TONS OR LESS OF COAL
STOVE CANYON COAL EXPLORATION PLAN AREA
• Big Sagebrush Shrubland
The Big Sagebrush Shrubland vegetation type occurs in deep loamy soils of drainages.
Big Sagebrush occurs mainly on the Rivra Nihill loam.
Plant species common to Big Sagebrush Shrubland vegetation type include; shrubs and
subshrubs, graminoids, (orbs, and succulents.
Shadscale Shrubland
Shadscale Shrubland occurs on extremely dry, steep, south-facing slopes bordering the
Greasewood Shrubland. This vegetation type is in the torriorthent rock outcrop complex
of soils which is a heterogeneous mixture of shallow to deep soils interspersed with rock
outcrops. Shadscale appears to be the climatic climax for these habitat conditions.
Plant species common to Shadscale Shrubland vegetation type include; shrubs and
subshrubs, graminoids, forbs, and succulents.
Juniper Woodland
Juniper Woodland occurs on the steep, north and west facing slopes and ridge tops
surrounding the XPA. This vegetation type occurs mainly on the torriorthent rock
outcrop complex although inclusions of Havre loam, a deep, well-drained soil. Juniper
Woodland is the climatic climax for these environmental conditions.
Plant species common to Juniper Woodland vegetation type include; trees, shrubs and
subshrubs, graminoids, forbs, and succulents.
Mountain Shrubland
The Mountain Shrubland Vegetation type occurs mainly on north-facing slopes. The
density of the shrubs vary with the degree of the slopes. Shrub densities increase on
the very steep slopes and tend to occur as patches and small clumps on the gentler
slopes.
The dominance of individual shrubs is most variable. Nearly pure stands of mountain
mahogany occur in some sites while in other habitats, Utah serviceberry dominates.
Gambel oak increases in importance at higher elevations.
§2.02.2(2)(d): Period of intended exploration.
CAM would like to commence drilling and access road and site preparation work no later
than August 15, 2004. Drilling at readily accessible sites would be done while sites with
more difficult access are prepared.
CAM estimates the total time to complete drilling and geophysical logging at
approximately 120 days per field season spread over two field seasons, assuming two
single rigs working a single 12 hour shift per day. Drilling tours will typically be 10 to 15
