Warning Statements: CAUTION. Keep out o} reach df
children. Harmful g swallowed or ebsometl mrough the
skin. Causes moderate eye irritation. Avoid breaming
vapors or sp2y mist. Do cwt get in eyes, on skin or
on cbihing.
Potentia Adverb Health ENects;
Likely Routes of Exposure: Inhalatwn, eye antl skin.
contaG.
Eye Contact: Minimally initatkg.
Skin Contact: Minimaly irritating. Overexposure by
skin absorp['nn may cause nausea, vomiting, abdomi
riot pain, decreased blood pressure, muscle weakness,
muscle spasms. Mey cause asergic reaGan ar sans}
tive individuals.
Inhalation: Harmful g infialeU. MaY cause symptoms
similar to those from ingestion.
ingestion: Harmful g swallowed. May cause nausea,
vomiting, abdominal pain, decreased Dlood pressure,
muscle weakness, muscle spasms.
Medical Contlilions Possibly Aggravated By ExPO•
sure: Inmalation of product may aggravate existeg
chronic respiratory problems such as asthma, emphy-
sema or bronchilrs. Skin contaG may aggravate exist-
ing skin disease.
Subchronic (Target Organ) ENects: (An adverse ef-
fect wim symptoms that develop slowly over a long
period of time): Repeated overexposure may cause
effects a liver, kidneys. blood chemistry, and gross
motor function. Rare cases of peripheral nerve dam-
age have been reported, but extensive animal studies
have failed to substantiate mesa observations, even
at high doses of 2,4-D for prolonged periods.
Chronic EReds/Carclnageniciry: Prolonged over-
exposure can cause INer, kidney and muscle dam-
age. Thelnternational Agency for Research on Can-
cer (IARC) lists exposure to chlorophenoxy herbicides
s a class 28 carcinogen, the category for limited evi-
ence for carcinogenic6y in humans. However, more
.urrent 2,4-D lifetime feeding studies in rats and mice
id riot Show carcinogenic potential. The USEPA has
given a class D classification (not classifiable as a
human carcinogenicity).
Reproductive Toxicity: No impairment of reproduc-
tive functon attributable to 2,4-D has been noted in
laboratory animal studies.
Developmental TGxiciry: Studies in laboratory air
imals with 2,4-D have shown decreased fetal body
weghts and delayed developrtlent in the oRsprtrg at
doses toxic to mother animals.
Genotoxiciry: There have been some pos4ive and
some negative studies, but the weight of evbence is
that 2,4-D is not mutagertic.
4. FIRST AID MEASURES '
N swallowed: Do not iMuce vomiting. If patient is
' wnscious and alert, give 2 to 3 glasses pf water to
dank. Po not give anyming q' mouth to.an uncon-
scious person. Get medical attention.
If on skin: Immediatey wash skin with plenty of soap
and water, it available.
N in eyes: Hold eyelids open and flush wim a steady,
gentle stream of wafer iw at least 15 minutes. Get
medical attention, preferably an ophthalmobgisl
N inhaled: Remove ro fresh air. If not breaming, give
arti(iclal respiration. Administer oxygen 6 necessary.
Ge! medcal atlentbn.
Note to Physician: This product contains petroleum
distillates. If large amounts (greater man 1 mgkg brxiy
weight) of mia product have been ingested, me stom-
ach should be evacuated by gasirk intubatbn wlih the
aid of a culled endotracheal Nbe to prevent aspiration
of petroleum distillates and possible chemical pceurrw
nia. Aber removal of stomach contents, wash stomach
by instilling 30 to 50 grams of activated charcoal in 3
a 4 ounces of water mrough the stomach tube acct
again remove stomach contents. Avoid oily laxatives.
This produG contains a pbenoxy herbicidal chemical.
There Is no specifx; antidote. All treatments shoua be
based on observed signs antl symptoms of d'~siress in
the patient Overexposure to materials other than mis
produG may have occurred.
Myotona effects may include muscle fibrillations, my
otonia, antl muscular weakness. Ingestion of massive
doses may resu0 in Dersistent fall of hood pressure.
Myogbbin and hemogbbin may be found in urine. Ele-
vatipns in Wcute dehydrogenase (LDH), SGOT, SGPT
and adoase indicate the extent of muscle damage.
It has Deen suggested that overexposure in humans
may aBeG bem the central ant perrpherel rrervaus
systems. The acute effects on the central nervous
system resemble those produced by alcohol w sede-
tive drugs. In 'solaced cases, peripheral neuropathy
antl reduced nerve conduction vebciees Aave been
reported although these observations may be related
a Omer factors. Gas-liquid chromatrgraphy for tleteW-
Ing ant measuring chlorophenoxy compounds in blood
antl urine may be useful in confirming antl assessing
the magnitude of chlorophenoxy absorpfwn.
6. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
Flash Point: 218'F (703'C) by Seta-Flash Gosetl cup
and ASTM D3278.
Autoignilion Temperature: Not determined.
Flammability Limits: Not determined.
Extinguishing Metlla: Recommended (Wrge fve):
foam, water spray. Recommended (small fires): dry
chemical, carbon dioxide.
Special Fire Fighting Procedures: Firefighters
should wear NIOSH/MSHA approved self-confainetl
breaming apparatus and full protective coming. Dike
area to prevent runoff and contamination of water
sources. Dispose of fire control water later.
Unusual Fire and Explosion hazards: When heated
above tbe flash point, this material emits flammaba
vapors which, when mixed with air, can bum or be
explosive. Fine mist or spray may be flammable M
temperaNres bekrv+ the flash point. Under fire condL
lions, toxic. corrosive fumes are emitted. Containers
will burst from internal pressure under extreme fire
conditions.
Hazardous Decomposition Materials (Under Fire
Conditions): Hydrogen chloride, other chorine cola '
pounds, oxides of nbrogen and oxides o/ carbon.
6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
Evacuation Procedures and Safety: Wear apPro-
]riate protective gear far the situaflon. See Personal
protection information in Section 6.
Containment of Spill: D6re spill using absorbent w
knpervbus materials such as earth, sand w clay. Col-
lectand wntain contaminated absorbent and dike rre-
terial kx disposal.
Cleanup and Disposal of Spill: Pump arty free liquid
into an appropriate cbsed container. Collect wash-
ings for disposal. Decontaminate took and equipment
following cleanup. (See Section 13.)
Environmental and Regulatory Reportings Prevent
material from enledrg public sewer system orany wa-
~terways. W not flush to drein. Large spills m soil or
similar surfaces may necess8ete removal of top soil.
The affected area should be removed and pWced m
an appropriate conlairxe for deposal. Spills may be
reportable m the National Response Center (80g-424
8802) antl to slate and/or bcal agerwies.
