Parkdale Project • 2 ~ Reclamation Permit
1.0 Survey Methodology
The delineation work began with a review and analysis of existing data, limited to a
topographic map of the project area. The topographic map was examined to determine
general slope conditions as well as the potential for vegetation community variability
related to physiography.
Following the analysis of existing information, the field work was begun. A
reconnaissance of the project area was conducted and general vegetation community
boundaries were identified. Detailed field work followed the reconnaissance evaluation.
In each area proposed to be disturbed, one or more 100-foot transects representative of
the vegetation types to be impacted were established. Along each transect, percent cover
by vegetation, litter, and rock was estimated by the line-intercept method. In addition,
tree heights were estimated and notes made of general observations related to each
vegetation community being evaluated as well as to the surrounding area. Following the
completion of field work, the local Natural Resources Conservation Service office was
visited to obtain copies of aerial photographs from which the vegetation map was
completed.
