Bluegrass, Big Sagebrush, White-flowered Peavine, American Vetch, and such weedy
species as Common Dandelion, Common Houndstongue, and Stinging Nettle.
In Mapping Unit D2, Gambel's Oak is consistently the clear dominant. In this
unit the most abundant associated species include Snowberry, Agassiz Bluegrass,
Yarrow, Geyer's Sedge, American Vetch, and various species of Wheatgrass.
2.4.2.2 Species List
A species list for each vegetation unit was compiled by collecting and
identifying plant specimens throughout the spring and summer months of 1979 (Tables
2.4-I through 2.4-8). The identification of all specimens was confirmed by Dr.
William A. Weber.
Several new county records for Routt County, Colorado, were obtained as a
result of The vegetation inventory. Voucher specimens for each species will be
deposited in the CSU Herbarium.
No endangered or threatened species were encountered.
Table 2.4-9 shows the total number of species observed for each vegetation unit.
• 2.4.2.3 Vegetation Cover and Productivity
Cover DaTo
Table 2.4-10 presents a summary of cover data for each vegetation type sampled
within the mine plan area. While percent vegetative cover between vegetation types
varies, the differences appear io be minor. Within each vegetation Type there are
essentially no differences in percent vegetative cover between the affected and
control areas. There are even less differences between vegetation types when
percent vegetation, litter, and rock is considered. Within each vegetation type the
percent vegetation, litter, and rock values between affected and control areas are
also very similar. Control areas for Aspen Woodland and Willow/Redtop were not
established. The Aspen Woodland is not being replaced, and The Willow/Redtop is not
being disturbed except for a small area at the water withdrawal point.
Aspen Woodland
Table 2.4-I I presents cover data by species for The Aspen Woodland vegetation
Revised 7-81 2.4-4
