W i I low/Redtop <br />The Willow/Redtop vegetation type is found in the stream bottoms. The <br />extremely moist conditions hove allowed the development of open stands of willows <br />such as Geyer's Willow (Salix geyeriana), Smooth Bebb Willow ($alix bebbiano), and <br />Blue Willow (Salix subcoerulea). These stands are surrounded by a matrix of Redtop <br />(A rostis ig gantea), and various species of sedge. Other commonly encountered <br />species included Short-awn Foxtail (Alopecurus ae ualis), Timothy (Phleum rap tense), <br />Agassiz Bluegrass and Kentucky Bluegrass (Poe pratensis). <br />Subirrigated Shrub <br />The Subirrigated shrub vegetation Type occurs adjacent to The Willow/Redtop <br />community along Trout Creek on very steep slopes cut into the older stream <br />terraces. The dominate shrub species occurring in this area include Wood's Rose, <br />Chokecherry, Snowberry, Serviceberry, Currants, several species of Willow, and Bush <br />Honeysuckle (Lonicera involucrata). The major forb species are Canada Thistle <br />(Cirsium arvense), Common Houndstongue (Cynoglossum officinale), Stinging Nettle <br />(Urtica dioica), Willow-Herb (Epilobium sp.), and Canada Goldenrod (Solids o <br />canadensis). <br />Sagebrush/Snowberry Shrubland <br />The Sagebrush/Snowberry Unit is dominated by Big Sagebrush typically along <br />with Mountain Snowberry. Occasionally, Silver Sagebrush is present as the dominant <br />species. Commonly occurring grasses include Agassiz Bluegrass, Western Wheatgrass, <br />and Western Needlegrass (Stipa occidentalis), Lupine, White Geranium (Geranium <br />richardsonii), Showy Daisy (Erigeron speciosus), White-flowered Peavine (Lathyrus <br />leucanthus), and American Vetch (Vicia americans). <br />Mountain Shrub <br />The mountain shrub vegetation type is dominated by Mesic and usually Tall <br />Shrubs including Gambel's Oak (Quercus gambelii), Serviceberry, Chokecherry, and <br />Snowberry. In Mapping Unit D3, the above species exist as a mixture of varying <br />• proportions. Associated species include Agassiz Bluegrass, Geyer's Sedge, Kentucky <br />Revised 7-81 2.4-3 <br />
